My friend and fellow radio control flyer Dick Evans helped get the club started.
They have a nice setup with all steel fences and tables. They are planning on extending the cover this year to where I took the picture from. They are also going to put a new layer of asphalt to the runway this spring. There was one club member there when I arrived who said since I had AMA membership I was welcome to fly.
I was surprised by the carpeted table tops, you are not going to scratch anything while working on it. I put in a couple of flights on each plane before the other pilot had to leave because his plane would not start.
They had a solar charging station set up that I used to charge a couple of batteries. The solar cells charge two large six volt batteries hooked up in series.
After we left the flying field we went into Florence and did some shopping at Safeway and Walmart. As we were leaving town we spotted the Pinal County Historical Museum. This is one of the woodpecker nests from inside a Saguaro cactus.
They have a lot of information there about the Hohokam tribe that built the big house at the ruins. This display was cards the Apache tribe made out of buckskin when they copied a Spanish card game.
I thought this was really interesting, it is a pedal powered jigsaw. There was also a pedal powered dental drill that looked really painful!
This carriage was sure in nice condition.
There was an old switch board set up in an old office display. We have a picture of Vera's sister Marie working at a similar one when she was the night operator.Vera used to ride on a Sulky or dump rake like this when she was helping her dad put in hay.
We happened to go on the first Saturday of the month when there was no admission charge so I donated to their fund to restore this old fire truck. There is lots of interesting things at the museum, I just barely touched the surface of what they have. I took lots of pictures but there are way to many to use here.
Barry, Mona, Dallan, Mona, Diane, Graf, Vera and I went to the Tumbleweed Inn for dinner and dancing. Vera and I had country fried steak and it was excellent. I haven't danced in years, it was the second dance before I found the rhythm. We could tell they catered to the older crowd, the dancing started at 6 and ended at 9. It was a fun evening!
