Day Fifteen

This is going down Hwy 79 to Tucson, we got a fairly early start as this was taken at 8:25.  We stopped at a Costco in Tucson, picked up a few items and filled up with gas.  At $2.08 it was the cheapest gas we gotten on the trip so far.
Here I am all ready and anxious to show Vera the Pima Air Museum.
This is what you see when entering the museum, it is hard to decide what to look at first.
So I headed for one of my favorites the Thunderbird's F-4E and I had Vera pose by it.
The first time I saw the Blue Angels perform in Seattle they were flying these F-11 Tiger's.
What I really like about Pima is that you can get up close and personal with most of the planes.
I was surprised while looking at the B-26 Invader to learn it was a hundred miles per hour faster than the B-25.
The engine used in the Navy version of the B-24, the PB4Y Privateer.
The cockpit of the Lockheed Lodestar, they have a fuselage set up that you can walk into.
This is the view looking right from the elevated viewing area of the new Hanger Five at Pima.
Looking to the left is the P-40 and the Privateer, the Lodestar fuselage is behind the Privateer.
When I noticed the American flag as victory on this P-51 I had to check out the reason.
If you click on this and make it bigger you can read how he shot down a C-47 and got the Distinguished Flying Cross for it.
This picture is for my friend Horty, one of his favorite planes is the F7F Tigercat.
Vera is in front of the B-52.
I have been wanting to add gear doors on my model B-36 so I took a bunch of pictures under the wings.
The Harrier is one of my favorite planes and they have five different models of it on display.
In the Harrier pictures you can see a plane above them, I zoomed up and took this picture.  I have never seen a C-130 with those things sticking out the sides of the rear fuselage.
I would hope they have a good ejection seat to clear the intake and tail on the F-107A.
This Flaglor Scooter compared to the warbirds is about as unstreamlined as they come.
Everywhere you look at Pima there are aircraft on display, they have over 350!
As we were leaving a flight of four F-18's came over and started breaking for their landing across the freeway at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base
We drove to Benson AZ after leaving Pima to visit Vera's niece Veda and her husband Loren.  This is the view from their deck looking to the East.
Veda pointed out some windmills we could barely see, so I zoomed up to see if I could get a picture of them.
Veda and Loren, Veda cooked a very nice dinner for us and we spent the night camped in their front yard.
