It Flies!

We went to church this morning, on time because we set the clocks last night.  Red Green had a funny one on Facebook, "If you walk into church and everyone gets up and leaves, don't feel bad, it just means you forgot to set your clocks last night!".  Not long after we got home, James came up to mow for us.  I hired him to take care of the lawn for us, he wants to earn some money and I have gotten tired of mowing.  Our car is going to get washed a little more often now also.  The name of the new plane is the IFO (Indoor Flying Object).  I even got a short flight on it this afternoon, I made two circles around the parking area before the battery ran down.  This evening, I got ambitious and used H&R Block online to file our income taxes.  It took me longer to find all the forms than it did to file.  I should work on my filing system, but I don't need it until next year.

Swap Meet

We were up before 6 this morning so we could be at the swap meet in McMinnville when it opened at 9.  We got there at 8:45 and people were already packing things out, it seems they were letting people in early.  We saw several people from each club that I belong to.  We ran into an old friend from the early days of radio control helicopters and had a nice visit with him.
This is the first plane I ended up with, it was so cute and only $10 that after three trips by it, I bought it. After we got home, I checked it out, both servos, the motor and speed control work fine.  I am not sure about the receiver, but I have one the same size that I will replace it with.
This is the second plane I brought home an F7F Tigercat. I was attracted to it the first pass around the room and it was still there as we were leaving, so I made an offer and ended up with it.  The wing needs quite a bit of work, but I got the plane for what the shipping is if you buy the kit.
We were getting hungry about when we got to Tigard, we spotted a Sonic Drive In and made a last minute decision to pull in, mainly because I have not been to a real drive in with curb service in ages. Vera had the Chicken Club Toaster and I had the Bacon Cheeseburger Toaster, we both really enjoyed them.  We must have been meant to stop there, because the lady in the next car left her lights on and came over to ask if we had jumper cables.  I got ours out and got her going before we started eating.  The traffic was terrible in Tigard, so we took 217 out to I5 and headed for the Vancouver Costco.  We found lots of things in there we needed and had the cart pretty well filled when we left. The drive down this morning was great, but it was raining pretty hard all the way home.  I spent the evening puttering on the two new planes, the F-15 and the Cub.

Friday Flying

It was sure nice to see some sunshine this morning.  I was excited to enjoy our one nice day in a long time.  We got to the field about 10:30, I started unloading planes and Vera grabbed the camera, big surprise as I stepped out the door.
I am getting ready for the first flight of the day in this picture, I trimmed out the little Yak I had repaired.  I was going to bring the new Cub, but the receiver acted up when I checked things out this morning, so I just left it home.
This is Ken and Leonard flying, we ended up with 5 flyers out there today.  I got 4 of my planes out and ended up flying about a dozen times.
The end of the day, the Dirty Birdy was the first one out this morning and the last one in this afternoon.
After I had unloaded and put the motor home away, I noticed the moon on my last trip to the house, so I stopped and took a few pictures.  That was a nice end to the day.

Old friends

We did not walk this morning, after looking at the forecast and seeing a repeat of Monday, we decided to sleep in.  I spent an hour or so this morning cleaning in the shop and got the North bench looking pretty good before it was time to head down to lunch.
I had connected with Vic an old flying buddy from 25 years ago on Facebook.  We got together at Sizzler's for lunch today and had a great time catching up.  We ended up spending three and a half hours talking, the time sure did fly by.  I got one new magazine at the post office, I spent the rest of the day with it and the computer.  I had planned on more cleaning in the shop, but again time just flew by.

A "Wet, Windy Monday!" and my Good Luck Charm

I slept in Monday morning and woke up with just enough time for a shower before we headed down for our walk.  I did not check Facebook or emails before leaving so we did not know the other walkers had canceled.  It was 47 degrees and raining pretty hard, but with our rain gear and umbrellas it wasn't too bad.  It was an extra workout pushing the umbrella into the wind.  After we got home and changed out of the wet clothes, I got the right side windows glued into the Cub.  Not too much else went on around here, no pictures were taken, so I may have to look for an old one from this date when I finish this. Well, that didn't happen.

Tuesday, it was a much nicer walk today, just light rain.  I got the left side windows and the windshield installed in the Cub.  While I was waiting for the glue to dry, I did some sanding on the RV-9 that is next on the list.  I spent about half the afternoon hunting for one aileron servo I had misplaced.  Vera came out to the shop and I was showing her where I had been looking for it and I spotted it!  She brought me good luck.  This evening, I had a club meeting in Longview at Stuffy's, I almost made it through their chicken fried steak.  It was a short meeting, so I had plenty of time to stop at Safeway for pop and gas.  As normal, I wrote up the minutes as soon as I got home, which went fairly fast since it was such a short meeting.  No picture so far today either, maybe I will go out tomorrow and take some of the Cub.
Wednesday, finally a picture!  The Cub is all done, I took care of a bunch of minor details, then hunted all over for the exhaust stack I had made for it.  I gave up and went in the house for a while, when I came back out, Vera said she would help me look.  Once again, I found it in just a couple of minutes. The last thing was putting on the hub caps and I'll be darned if I couldn't find them either.  After looking awhile I went to see if I had left them in the computer room.  No luck there, and Vera came back out to help me again.  While we were looking, I remembered some of the parts were in a plastic box.  Vera found the box, it is part of lid on the tool box I had in the house while building the Cub.  It was sitting there with the lid open which hid the plastic box mounted in the lid.  She even pointed out the hub caps in the box to me.  She is sure my good luck charm.  I glued the hub caps on and took some pictures, then called it a night.

Almost Done!

I surprised Vera this morning and went to Sunday school with her.  The men's group is kind of laid back and I enjoyed the lesson.  The pastor used the talent show in her sermon, then during the social time after church several people asked about coming up to see the planes or get information about them as a gift for a grandchild.  Maybe I should clean up the shop a little!  We spent a nice relaxed afternoon and evening watching TV and reading, I did get the wing struts and wheels installed on the Cub.  Now I will take it to the shop and glue in the windows.  Then, I just have to install the receiver, program the radio and it will be ready for a test flight.  Hmm, what kit or plane will be next?

Sleepy Morning

This is the award Jenny was handing out to people who participated in the church talent show.  The candy was great, those are just the empty wrappers.  I was wide awake at 5 this morning, I finally gave up and got up about 6.  I watched the news, checked emails and went on Facebook until it was time to go down for the Methodist Men's breakfast.  There was just about everything you could imagine to eat at breakfast and it was all great.  I had a nice time visiting with the guys and kids that were there.  Of course the big meal and lack of sleep meant I took a nap about 10 this morning.
Vera found a pansy in bloom in one of the pots on the deck, it was kind of ragged looking, but maybe spring is getting closer.  I spent the afternoon unloading the motor home and arranging a different batch of planes to fly in it.  I did some maintenance on the Corsair, then  I finally had to give up trying to fit it into the bedroom of the motor home, it is just too big.  It will have to spend it's life hanging in the shop and riding in the aisle when I take it out to fly.  Vera made a great pot pie for dinner and I was sleepy again so I kept on the move afterwards.

Abernathy, Focaccia and Flying

3-14-2025 When I looked out the West window this morning it looked like snow on Abernathy.  By the time I finished my exercises and remember...
